She's the co-founder, with Kate Harris, of the U.K.'s LGB Alliance. In just five years, the two staged 'a global revolution' to restore LGB rights and ban puberty blockers. I wondered how they did it.
Fine discussion & thanks Bev & Jenny. I’m from the American side and was involved, some years ago, with an LGBT employee group in the federal gov (retired now). Well, our first namesake was just G/L but we soon added B & T ‘cause … why not! (Inclusiveness?) No T ever showed up, though, can’t say why.
Seems to me gay & lesbian is inextricably linked with trans, in so far as lots of gay/lesbian identifying people (of course, not all) get grief for being too mannish or swishy as it were. I mean the whole “trans-ing away the gay” argument buys into it (eg saying lots of the girls seeking transition are really future lesbians). Seems like many of the trans-identified are also homosexual.
Well, I’m not for medicalization. Heck I was asked as a young girl in 1964 if I was interested in a ‘treatment’ so I could “stop growing”! (I was a precociously tall girl.) ummm … no thanks (who the heck would want that?!) So the mainly straight medical world needs to stop these Frankensteinian procedures; parents, teachers, & doctors need to be less freaked about kids conformity or not (“normality”), men need to accept other men (in dresses & makeup) in their bathrooms (lol good luck with that!) & no men in women’s sports, no lesbians with dicks, etc.
As for these men & women who want (or need) to crossdress, well, as you said re:toilets, that’s another issue peripheral to the medicalization of youth & women’s rights.
So important to highlight people like Bev. They will be looked upon as heroes in the future! And it’s always good to learn something new about this movement. While I knew about the LGB controversy, I was unaware of the role of Bev and Kate in the creation of this incredibly pivotal charitable institution.
Also, It’s necessary to be reminded that they had no financial backing and no mainstream media exposure - to thoroughly debunk any ridiculous conspiracy theories of how powerful people like Bev and Kate are, all of which are hatched by extremists looking to invalidate concerns about what’s happening to children, teens, vulnerable adults and women’s rights.
Yes, the contempt for elderly lesbians is so glaringly obvious. Many of our detractors persist in saying - and perhaps really believe! - that we must have received “dark money” and support from far right Evangelicals in the US! They cannot conceive that two old dykes had the determination, the skills, and the vision to accomplish what we accomplished!
I wish it was true that puberty blockers had been banned in the UK. See my recent note for details of the legislation.

Bev is such an inspiration, and Jenny, you always ask great questions of your guests.
Thank you, Barb! I appreciate that very much.
