What are we doing here?

This page remained blank for the first month of TransMuted because I wasn’t sure exactly whom I was writing to. I thought if I attracted any subscribers at all, they were likely to be mothers of ROGD girls who were living lives parallel to mine, in which case I might not be able to offer much they didn’t already know.

I do think some of you meet that description, and I really hope you, especially, will speak up in the comments when you have something to add, or correct, or commiserate about. I’ve also been gratified to learn that many of you are not regulars in the so-called rabbit hole. Gratified because my goal is to spread the word that ‘gender identity’ is ideology, not science; and there’s a mountain of information to color and support that assertion which the public isn’t getting.

Am I the best person to supply you with under-reported facts about a highly consequential, politically divisive cultural phenomenon?

Well, no. When I tell you I’m a mom with an Etsy shop, I’m not being ironic. I want Rachel Maddow to report it, and whoever anchors the network news every evening, and whoever has the biggest audience at CNN. David Remnick at The New Yorker: how about you? lol.

I’m just doing this until they show up. I’m not an academic researcher or a journalist, but I have learned some important, often astonishing things over the last seven years, thanks to the independent journalists and researchers who took to formats like this one and starting typing. I’m weaving their reporting into a narrative informed by my own “primary-source” experience. I’m trying my best to get it right, and to attribute others’ work in the proper way, but I’m likely to make a mistake here and there. If I find out about it, I’ll correct the record.
