Welcome to TransMuted!
Since I hijacked a word for my own selfish purposes, it seems right to give the real definition here: transmute (v): to cause a thing to change in form, or nature, or substance.
Ah, but capitalize one letter and everything goes to hell!
You may have found your way to this page via my article, “What is Chris Thinking?,” which was published on Wesley Yang’s Substack last week year. Wesley covers an array of cultural phenomena, and has lately been championing the cause of parents who find ourselves in this uncanny predicament: our child (usually a daughter) has been firmly persuaded (usually online) that she’s a boy.
What escalates this moment from silly teenage confuzzlement to five-alarm-emergency is the chilling discovery that the entire culture — yes, that one, the one we all live in — is in on the con. It was somehow reprogrammed, in secret (while we slept?) in order to bolster and concretize our daughter’s confusion, alter her mind and body and potentially spirit her away from us altogether, to an imaginary world in which benevolent, glitter-encrusted eunuchs will see to her care, because “non-affirming” parents, as everyone will agree, are genocidal monsters.
Never mind that the central theme, changing sex, is a material-reality nonstarter. It’s neither a thing that’s ever happened nor a thing that ever will. It takes five minutes of critical thinking, if you’re thorough, to apprehend this fact.
Some of us resolve to push back and speak up as soon as we get our bearings, only to have letters to editors, school superintendents, and the leaders we elected — maybe even campaigned for — make like ghosts and ignore our polite, always respectful and heartfelt entreaties.
Dismay becomes anger becomes disgust, until lo, here we have me grinding out the absurdly self-evident case for human sexual dimorphism to bestow upon you, the rational, well-informed and (if I may say so) exceptionally good-looking reader who never doubted it for a second. In the wider, less-engaged, go-with-the-flow world, I remain Muted, which brings us back around to my Chris Hayes interrogation, and now to this place.
Thank you, seriously. I want to have you to dinner — which, at 15 subscribers to date, would make for a nice, cozy evening. I hope you will stick around, as I have a lot more to say, and it’s highly motivating to imagine you might want to read some of it!
Cheers for now,
Jenny
You have a way with words. I look forward to reading all your posts! This is SUCH an important issue. I feel like our entire society is under some crazy spell, like we've fallen into some 1984-meets-Alice-in Wonderland nightmare, where up is down and down is up, and to suggest otherwise is thought crime. Always happy to hear more moms speaking up against this NONSENSE that is brainwashing our kids and ruining lives.
more posts please!
