I’ve invited ML, a previous guest on the podcast and the author of two guest essays, to come back and talk about his experience with his adult son, who’s been identifying as trans for about 5 years now.
Too many people, especially parents dealing with this uniquely totalizing pressure that’s often felt both inside and outside the home, also suffer from being either silenced or voluntarily silent for fear of some harsh consequence. So in this series I want to let my guests do almost all the talking.
A day after ML and I finished this recording I noticed the following passage in an email from the coaching professional known on Substack as Stoic Mom. It makes for a fitting epilogue to this episode, if you remember to come back to it:
“What changes for you if you allow yourself to just be human? To recognize that you’ll do your best, of course you will! And so often our best doesn’t change the external circumstances.”
